The Quest to Find Yourself

The magic in creating your world from the inside out.

“I felt the urge to take a great pilgrimage. So I sat still for three days.”

One of my favorite quotes ever.

I think I’ve purchased more one-way plane tickets than handbags in my life. My favorite solution to any problem. But it never worked. I spent nearly three years backpacking, visited around 19 countries, and I never found what I was looking for.

I came home, started a business. I didn’t find what I was looking for.

I tripled my income year after year. I still didn’t find what I was looking for.

I created new projects that pulled more and more greatness out of myself. Caught a fleeting glimpse, a moment of touching it, but it disappeared as quickly as it came.

I started coaching others in support of finding it themselves. Got closer, but it slipped away.

Started going through massive personal development: trainings, programs, coaching. Now I could see it. Intellectually, I could see it, envision it, describe it. But I couldn’t feel it.

And then, I sat still. I stopped trying and felt everything I was feeling, as it came up. I stopped trying to fix it, figure it out or flee it.

When I was frustrated trying to create a new program, I sat in the tension.

When I didn’t know what to do next, I went for a walk.

When I didn’t know what to say to a client, I sat in silence.

And when I wanted to create, shake things up, or start fresh, I sat still.

I just let the energy (emotion) move through my body.

Turns out, it was there all along, just behind all of that desire, energy and tension.

Now, I’m just playing with cultivating more depth in it.

My second favorite:

The Creator gathered all of Creation and said: “I want to hide something from the humans until they are ready for it. It is the realization that they create their own reality.”

The Eagle said: “Give it to me, I will take it to the moon.”

The Creator said: “No. One day, they will go there and find it.”

The Salmon said: “I will bury it on the bottom of the ocean.”

The Creator said: “No. They will go there, too.”

The Buffalo said: “I will bury it on the Great Plains.”

The Creator said: “They will cut into the skin of the Earth and find it even there.”

Grandmother Mole, who lives in the breast of Mother Earth and who has no physical eyes but sees with spiritual eyes, said: “Put it inside of them.”

And the Creator said: “It is done.”
