The Power of Vulnerable Leadership
Last night, the super worm equinox moon appeared in the sky, marking the end of winter.
A supermoon occurs when a full moon reaches its closest point to earth in its elliptical orbit, making it appear unusually large and bright. 🌕
The radiance of the moon cast deep, nighttime shadows on the ground, and it reminded me of the importance of witnessing and sharing both the brightest AND darkest moments of our experiences.
Success and fulfillment are culturally sold as a dream, a destination and a point at which you one day arrive and complete your journey.
The dream of arriving at a final destination by slaying all of your dragons leads to an ongoing PURSUIT of happiness, success and fulfillment.
Leaders and creators share their hero’s journeys and struggles as the path by which they arriveD.
This is inspiring and useful, but I believe there is an additional, powerful approach: There is no arrival. Only a continuation of your journey from a new perspective.
Personal growth, evolution and success are a spiral. 🌪 We continue to revisit our shadows — the darkest parts of us — again and again.
But as we spiral upward, we pass them more quickly and from a higher vantage point, more removed from our attachment to them.
Be willing to share your continued journey, with the ongoing wins AND challenges.
Don’t wait until you’re through it to share it. Find learning in the process and insight in the pain, and share ALL of it WHILE you’re ankle deep in the shit. 💩
Be willing to be vulnerable.
Sure, it’s inspiring to share, “I was there. Now I’m here. So you can be, too.”
But it’s powerful and vulnerable to share, “I AM there. Right now. Again. And you have the map. Let me help you see it.”
We’re never done. There is no perfect. Fulfillment is created in the process.
It is the hero’s journey, after all — not the hero’s destination. 🚀🌕
