How Many People Does It Take to Create 1 Client?

If your answer is 2, then you better read on…

A few weeks ago, I was sitting in my kitchen (where I often coach) about an hour before a call with a new coach. We had had a few coaching conversations, and this particular call was to discuss whether or not we were going to get married (I had proposed to him on our previous call ;)).

But my energy was off. I knew hopping on the call in that state was going to block me from really listening. Really hearing what he was saying and ultimately, from being in service. And if you’re not truly in service, you also won’t likely create a “yes” for coaching. Which is bad for both of you when the magic is really there.

As I reflected that night, grateful to be entering into this new coaching partnership, I noted how many people were actually involved in creating this client.

  • My coach — who helps me go deeper into service for each client, coach more fearlessly, and continuously show up more powerfully.
  • My assistant booking his session — who helps make him feel cared for through the entire process.
  • My (coach) friend — who I messaged before the call when my energy was feeling off. She offered me a powerful reframe to shift the energy.
  • My husband — who creates a powerful sense of belonging. Even at work, I know I have his support no matter the outcome. I have a childhood fear of being rejected if I don’t succeed. He helps remind my inner child that I’ll always have love and support.
  • My mom — who reminded me why it’s okay to not feel good. You can be powerful AND not feel positive at the same time.
  • And of course, my client!
  • Oh! And me!

All in all, it took 7 people — including me and my client — to create our partnership.

If you’re trying to do this alone and you’re struggling, remember, it takes a village.

Bonus!: Here are some of the other practices that (over time) create my perfect coaching energy:

  • Essential oils on my pillow at night — to physically relax me (even when my mind doesn’t want to stop).
  • Daily meditation — perhaps the most important of all. 80% of the giants interviewed by Tim Ferris have a daily mindfulness practice.
  • Exercise — 3–5 times per week to keep my mind fresh through a healthy body.
  • Healthy food — to keep energy high.
  • Coffee — for a little extra kick of alertness.

*Remember this: not ONE person who is successful has done it solely on their own. Not one, in the history of time. You’re not going to be the first.

Having a group of people who support you, love you, push you, and teach you will help create your success faster than anything else.

Question driving me lately:

What would you like to create / achieve in the next 10 years? What is stopping you from creating it in the next 6 months?
